It worked for me… Mindfulness
Dear Kelly
I wanted to write and let you know about the success we are having at St Lawrence with ‘Focused for Learning’. After taking part in your seminar on mindfulness during the conference last year, I began introducing the Mindful approach with my class of Year Five children. They responded really well. This year I am able to work across the school and have introduced mindfulness to everyone in Year Two to Year Five. We have plans to work with Foundation Stage and Year One over the next term.
The Year Five children enjoyed it so much that they set up their own mindfulness club during lunchtimes on a Friday so they could continue learning the techniques. The Year 3 class have needed a PSHE intervention as there have been a number of issues that they needed support with. This means that they have a 20 minute session 3 times a week of mindfulness and thinking about their feelings on top of their usual PSHE lessons. The Year 2, 3 and 5 classes have all made their own sparkly bottles and siblings across these classes have enjoyed doing these activities together at home. Parents have reported that their children talk about the activities at home and they state that the approach helps them to relax and feel calm.
We have a Mindfulness display up in the school with pictures of the children taking part in the activities and their thoughts on Mindfulness.
I am really excited by the impact the techniques are having on the children in our school and wanted to share it with you. Thank you!
